I absolutely love Hamilton House for any reason at all, and I especially love it for weddings and portrait sessions. There is such a wonderful variety of backdrops available, and it’s never crowded. I’ve shot there enough that I know where the best light is at certain times of day, and I’m able to plan our session so that we follow the light around the property. When I chatted with Julia about their engagement session, I was thrilled when we decided on Hamilton House for their location. Late in the evening in August 2017, we met up along with Eric’s sister and their sweet bulldog Josie. I loved everything about this couple as soon as I met them. They were so nice and welcoming, and they were completely at ease with each other and me, and we had a great time. Everybody is a little nervous for the first few shots, but we must remember that this is all just practice anyway. Add a sweet pooch and some laughs and the nerves start melting away.
Eric and Julia are high school sweethearts from Dover, NH and since they’ve been together for many years, you can see how natural and comfortable they are together. As they’ve been developing in their education and careers, they’ve been moving around a lot and living apart for a bit during this period of transition, but luckily a time when things are settled down is within sight.
Theses two were so easy to work with, and were totally fine with all my posing suggestions, many of which may feel cheesy, but this is an instance where you just have to trust your photographer. Many times things look beautiful although you may feel a bit corny. Sometimes my suggestions are simply to get you to laugh or to generate a natural reaction, and it’s that reaction that I’m waiting for, not the pose itself.
Thank you to Julia and Eric for hanging out with me on this beautiful summer evening at Hamilton House. I was more excited than ever to photograph their wedding the following September.
