Emma and Tommy
Emma and Tommy were married at The Rocks Estate in Bethlehem, NH on September 3, 2016. They also happen to have one of the most amazing How-We-Met stories that I just can’t help but share….. In college they both ended up in Ecudaor studing water quality and health in the local community, and while living literally in the forest treetops in Ecuador, they met each other and fell in love over the month they spent together. That love of the outdoors, and forestry preservation led to them planning their wedding at The Rocks Estate which is part of the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. In fact, that Latin flair that worked itself into the fabric of their early relationship continued to work its influence, as they chose a Latin-inspired menu from their caterer, featuring a make-your-own paella station, salt crust chicken, plantains, salsa and guacamole, and for dessert……. grilled peaches over ice cream with wedding cake.
getting ready
It was a gorgeous early September afternoon, and the girls and guys got ready at separate locations around the property. There is an adorable little cabin with screened in windows where the girls stayed tucked away. Emma wore a beautiful strapless blush gown from BHLDN, and her bridesmaids were perfect in neutral beige lace summer dresses from J. Crew.
the ceremony
the reception
Cocktail hour gave guests a chance to enjoy guacamole, chips, and margaritas while family photos were being taken. Emma and Tommy provided lawn games like cornhole and beer pong to keep everyone active and entertained.
The wedding cake from Federick’s pastries was gorgeous in citrus yellows and greens, matching perfectly with the margaritas!
Speeches and toasts are one of my favorite wedding moments to photograph. Emotions can run high, and it’s so wonderful to see so much community support from friends and family for a new couple. I don’t often get weepy at weddings anymore since I’ve seen so many, but when I do, it’s almost always because of a really touching speech. In fact, Tommy’s best man and best friend Jon is the absolute first to ever quote one of the most memorable and awkward best man speeches ever–Sherlock’s speech to John at his wedding. “If I say that you deserve this man, it is the highest compliment of which I am capable.”
Dinner was a gorgeous buffet feast with South American flair, beautifully presented by Bailiwick’s in nearby Littleton. They even offered a custom paella station, cooked before your eyes by a chef.
As night fell, all the guests moved into the barn for a fun evening of dancing and desserts. It was a great dance party, and I didn’t know Tommy had such moves!
I had so much fun photographing Emma and Tommy’s wedding! Working with such genuinely nice and caring people makes this the best job in the world for me.
