“There are no motorcycles allowed at 121 Highland,” Amy’s grandmother wrote sternly on a note attached to a copy of Lakes Region Bride magazine, freshly arrived in the mail with the cover portraying a happy couple posed on a motorcycle. Amy was planning her New Hampshire wedding all the way from her home in San Francisco, so the bit of New Hampshire wedding information was a big help, although her grandmother did not want her to get any crazy ideas.

If I remember correctly, every member of her mother’s side of the family has been married at the family home in Ashland, NH, at least in some way. This homestead has clearly been the heartbeat of the family for more than 40 years, and it’s a home filled with memories that are almost palatable on your first visit there. I was struck by the number and variety of family photos proudly displayed throughout their home, covering every surface with numerous decades and generations of accomplishments and happy memories. This home has served as the heart of the family for decades, and I loved how Amy and Trent’s wedding would become the newest addition to the legacy of family history in the home.

the ceremony

In the front yard, the ceremony was held under the towering old trees that framed the house from the road. Just as the family members and bridal party started their processional, a freakishly strong wind started up, and knocked over programs and blew cups off the table where the cucumber water was stationed. I was seriously concerned about the tent for a minute there, but it seemed to die down as quickly as it started.
