Emily & Alex
Getting Ready
I was so excited when I arrived at Emily and Alex’s house and discovered that she was getting hair and makeup done in their bedroom. Why? Because Emily had taken note of every photographer’s dream getting ready room and made it a reality: lots of natural light, windows shaded with sheer drapes, neutral floor and wall color, tall ceilings, and even a total lack of clutter. It was amazing, and you’ll see how her photos benefited from it.
Furthermore, she had gathered all of her accessories, invitations, and jewelry so that it was all ready to be photographed and provided me with a whole room to stage as I wished. I love that she had purchased a monogrammed Mrs. Box for her rings which looked so beautiful with her invitation suite.
Meanwhile, Alex and his best man were over at Hamilton House putting on their final touches and my assistant Carey captured some of their pre-ceremony portraits.
Ceremony
The ceremony overlooking the river was short and sweet. Emily made a beautiful entrance down the stone steps with her father, trailing her beautiful Essense of Australia dress.
Immediately after the ceremony, before the family could gather for group photos, I quickly darted over to the garden where White Apron Catering had set up an absolutely beautiful appetizer display for cocktail hour. Since I wasn’t able to arrive until moments before the ceremony started, I knew that if I didn’t take this opportunity to capture these photos of the garden all set up, then the displays would be decimated if I waited until after formal photos. Sometimes when there is no time allowed or scheduled for detail photos, I have to make time and squeeze it in where ever I can. Very quickly, more quickly than I would have liked, I photographed the gorgeous table displays of breads, cheeses, fruits, and olives which were color coordinated with Emily’s favorite shades of purples and autumn colors. What an absolutely beautiful and delicious treat for their guests!
Portraits and Reception
One thing that Emily made absolutely clear to me from the first meeting with her, is that she loves purple. I was so excited to see how she had incorporated her favorite color into the elegant fall wedding decor. The reception tent was decorated so beautifully and tastefully. I absolutely love wood farm tables, and these were incredible.
Beautiful catering is one of my favorite things about a wedding day and when you’re working with the incomparable White Apron of Dover NH, the colors and textures are to swoon over.
The lemon beehive tartlets and chocolate pyramids were perfect bite-sized treats on the dessert display.
There were two kinds of macarons from La Maison Navarre in Portsmouth.
And finally, as the evening light becomes soft, it’s the best time of day to take the bride and groom out for dreamy portraits, if time allows. Not all weddings have the luxury of having free time at this time of evening, but when it works out, the best photos of the day are made.
