I was asked by my lovely friend and fellow photographer Sarah Swan to help out with shooting her sister Emily’s wedding. Since Sarah was actually in the wedding party as matron of honor it would have been really difficult for her to attend to her sisterly duties, look after her son as ring bearer, AND be the photographer (oh, and also find time to enjoy the day!). She is definitely a superwoman but even that is a little too much on any one person. It was a really fun arrangement because I got to do what I love the most– which is details, candids, and relaxed portraits while Jay Sliviak took care of the main ceremony angle, formals and reception highlights. I call it a win-win!
Emily and TJ decided to do a first look before the ceremony…. and I love how Emily didn’t give away all the surprise, because she wore a vintage party gown instead of her wedding gown (and yes, her hair was really that gorgeous). I don’t know how she managed it, but the pale blue gown was the perfect match for her eyes. They met in the beautiful display garden of Chakarian Farms which was much like a fairytale in itself. Her dad really pulled out all the stops to make it the perfect setting for their wedding!
While formal group portraits are going on, my favorite thing to do is sneak around and snag some relaxed headshots of folks who are waiting around for their turn. The pace is a little slower, the pressure is off, and I find people are happy to open up and give me a wonderful portrait.
The wedding colors were indigo with peach accents, and the theme was this gorgeous rustic wildflower farmish feeling. The bouquets and centerpieces were wild & wonderful collages of wildflowers, the wedding favors were miniature jars of honey, beeswax candles were placed in mason jars on the reception tables, and little butterflies tucked into the bouquets gave nod to the beautiful butterfly release during the ceremony. It was fun and unique.

I loved meeting these guys…… I heard all about the bachelor party over dinner….. 😉
Congratulations, Emily & TJ! It was a pleasure being there at your special day.
