I have to admit, I fell in love with Caitlin with her very first inquiry email to me last summer. She caught my attention right away with her and Matt’s appreciation of history and environmental conservation. They knew they wanted to host their wedding at their home in the spring…. the only problem was that they didn’t yet have a home at the time. They were actively house hunting and knew they wanted an older home, but beyond that, they did not even know what city or town they would end up living in. Fast forward a few months, and an adorable 1940s bungalow was called home and a wedding date was set for May 24.

thoughtful preparations

“One of my favorite things is photographs. Whenever I visited any of my grandparents growing up, I would immediately go to closets where the picture boxes were stored and commit to memory images of my family through the years… most of them before I was born. I’m a historian, and know the value of documents and what they can tell about people, and I know that our wedding pictures will become my most prized possessions. I cannot wait to look at candid, real pictures with my future children that capture not only the love story that their father and I have, but also that of our family and friends coming together to support us in our commitment to each other. I love that your photographs look real, that they catch details, emotions and unexpected moments. As a high school Special Education teacher, I always notice the details, the things that are a little off kilter or unexpected. I approach each person holistically, and try to put together their story. If I don’t do those things with my students, then I can’t teach them how to use their strengths to overcome their weaknesses, and my job is pointless. I see you approaching photographing weddings with much of the same passion, and deeply appreciate that.”

Every detail was infused with history and sentiment. Caitlin was the 4th generation of brides in her family to wear this necklace on her wedding day.

the ceremony

The ceremony was held in the front yard, just steps away from the house. Family and friends gathered around to hear them read their vows.

the reception

I’m pretty sure I have never photographed as many flowers in a wedding as I did at this one. Family and friends brought huge bouquets and bucketfuls of lilacs, daffodils, lily of the valley, bleeding hearts, and hostas from their own gardens and filled every space with floral beauty.  Friends, co-workers, and family all lent their time and talent to provide many important aspects of the wedding day: the wedding cake, wedding dress, music, flowers, and more. It was absolutely stunning, and everything coordinated beautifully.  All the tables had gorgeous vintage tablecloths that Caitlin found on eBay.

I love that they found this little antique cross stitch sampler of an actual blue bungalow. 🙂

The appetizers and desserts were all served potluck style, and there was such an abundance of delicious and beautiful food.

How amazing that they brought in Jamaica Mi Hungry food truck to cater the dinner?  I heard the guests raving about the jerk chicken, rice and beans, curry vegetables, and plantains.
