I am completely smitten with Jessica and Zach’s November engagement photos at Hamilton House in South Berwick, Maine. November is one of my favorite months for weddings and photos, believe it or not. Of course everyone loves October with its showoff colors and majestic scenery. But I find a quiet, somber beauty in November, when most of the trees are bare, all the leaves have been cleaned up, the sunlight is significantly weaker and allows for a quiet exploration of textures, colors, and soft light. Jess and Zach were amazing to work with, and it was great to be able to get some fall photos for them before their summer wedding next year.
College campuses make great locations for engagement sessions! Not only can they be a sentimental tribute to where a couple met, they provide beautiful scenery and landscapes for photos, as well as provide conversation starters about how they met and some of their shared memories there. Cara and Kyle did just this, when we met up at their alma mater, Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts, and they showed me around campus on this gorgeous afternoon in late October.
Since they were both science majors, this building was a special request since they shared many classes here together.
Meet Carolyn and Ben! We met up on an almost-rainy Sunday afternoon at Fuller Gardens in North Hampton, NH for their engagement session. They both love gardens and flowers, so it was the perfect location for them. The weather ended up holding out and we had beautiful light for the entire session (and check out her gorgeous halo diamond ring!). I’m so excited to be working with them, and can’t wait for their spring wedding at Harrington Farm next year!
jenny & pat
I was so thrilled to meet Jenny and Pat early on a Saturday morning in Boston at Harvard’s Arnold Arboretum. It was my first time visiting the Arboretum, which exceeded my expectations with how lush and beautiful it is. Jenny and Pat chose this location because of its obvious natural beauty, but also because it was where they got engaged! We had a great stroll through the park, chatting about their wedding plans, and stopping for photos anytime we saw something pretty. It was great to get to know them a bit before their late fall wedding in Vermont.
I instantly loved these orange azaleas and knew we had to stop there.
I was also excited to find a few Fringe Trees, or “Old Man’s Beard,” which gave a delicate white floral background, like lace.
A large group of birdwatchers in a tour group came out of nowhere, and Jenny and Pat looked like they had a crowd of paparazzi coming at them with cameras and binoculars!
I had the pleasure of meeting up with Caitlin and Issac back in November to photograph them for their engagement session. They had the wonderful idea to meet at the Larz Anderson Park in Brookline, MA and it was absolutely perfect. Winding paths, woods, a large pond, and really nice architectural elements like this Temple of Love (shown below), all gave us so many beautiful photo ops. It was a lovely afternoon.
How beautiful is this couple? They’re going to make a gorgeous bride and groom next fall!
Thank you, Caitlin and Issac, for a lovely afternoon walk around the park, getting to know each other. I can’t wait for your wedding later in the year!
