cara and kyle
Cara and Kyle were married at the Quechee Inn at Marshland Farm in Quechee, VT on June 25, 2016. They met in college–both science majors–and it was fun to go with them last fall to Merrimack College for their engagement photos and see the science building where it all started. Fast forward to the following June……it was the quintessential perfect summer day….. it was so hot, and the daylight went on endlessly as it always does in June. I absolutely love photographing weddings in picturesque Vermont, and I’ve been lucky enough to work in the Quechee/Woodstock area a good bit in the past couple of years. Read on to find out more about all their fun DIY projects, unplugged ceremony, and a surprise hot air balloon visit.
first look and portraits
It was a sizzling hot June day, and it was also midday, so it was tricky to find a location for Cara and Kyle’s first look that wasn’t under the blazing sun. Not only did I want to avoid harsh shadows on their faces, but I also wanted to keep them as cool and comfortable as possible. Nobody wants to head into their ceremony with their freshly done hair and makeup not so fresh anymore. I chose a shaded grove along the fence in the hopes of keeping them as cool as possible. Afterward we did their portraits under the beautiful trees surrounding the courtyard.
Cara and Kyle were married under the shade of two very old and large maple trees by the side of the house. I loved the ribbon wands that everyone waved at the end, so festive and pretty!
The reception tent at The Quechee Inn is amazingly large, and so beautifully placed beside a giant red barn, overlooking sweeping green pastures down to a little river, with iconic rolling green mountains in the background….. I mean, it’s just the most Vermont thing you could possibly think of. Cara and Kyle brought a fun color palette of peaches, yellows, reds, and blues in the form of pinwheels placed in “vases” made of Jenga blocks! All of which Cara made herself. A large sequined table runner down the center of each table gave a pop of shimmer and color. The game theme continued with playing cards for table numbers and seating cards, and ended with a HUGE basket of scratch tickets at the end of the night for wedding favors. With a really fun DJ, this crowd was ready to party all night!
I’m so thrilled to be a part of this wedding day! Cara and Kyle, thank you so much for having us and we wish you all the best in your future academic acheivements!
